Importance of Scholarships

Scholarships are very important I believe, especially if its need-based and you have no other way to pay for college. Getting a full ride to college for athletics, or academics can be a big help in a way where not only is there a lot of money saved but it also gives you a fresh start whenever you graduate college and don't have to spend the rest of your life paying off student loans. Scholarships and grants are both extremely helpful because you are not required to pay it back. Once its yours its yours! Also scholarships give a great motivation to students because students work hard and do what is required to receive them. Scholarships give students a reason to work hard and stand out from other students in the environment. They are a huge help in my society and I hope that they will continue to have scholarships around forever.

To Do:

  • Take ACT
  • Retake SAT
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Get GPA higher
  • Finish School
  • Have a productive Sr. Year
Timeline:
The year is almost over so the things on my to do list will have to be done during the summer and my sr. year. Apply to colleges in august 2015.

Academically I need to be in AP classes to get my class rank and GPA higher. I also need to study as well as I can so I can make a great grade on my SAT/ACT. I do believe these colleges are the ones for me and will be the best ones for what I want to major in. These universities offer some of the best accelerated medical programs, and will get me a good start to my neurosurgeon career.

A college degree may make your chances getting a good job better, but not always is it necessary. Even though studies show that college graduates have a higher employment rate and higher salaries, they also show that 50%  of people that start a bachelors degree never finish.  In 2013 studies show that student loan debts go as high as $30,000. Some careers such as welders, electricians, and plumbers  ( jobs that aren't degree necessary ) can be making 100,000 per year, if talented. Most people dont consider what they are going to school for, and end up in jobs they dont have degrees in. Therefor, wasting a lot of money and being in debt. So in some cases what matters now is having the skills to do the job, not necessarily a piece of paper.

I think the U.S system does a good job as far as giving people the freedom to be whatever they want to be. However, the cost of education can get pretty ridiculous. The average student loan debt from 2013 was about 30,000. It takes some people years to pay off that money. I think The U.S should make education a more reasonable price, and better payment plans. Other than that, GO USA!

All I did was hang out with a few friends of mine. The first couple days I stayed home, watched movies, and slept. Then on Wednesday I went to church and out to eat with bae. Then Wednesday night I went and saw the duff which was a pretty dumb movie.  Then on Thursday I went to see Cinderella with bae and friends. Then all I did after that was chill with the hommies and sleep until this wonderful back to school day. Oh how I love school so much.

1. I think Neil would have committed suicide either way, with or without Mr. Keating. Maybe not at the same time but i think he would eventually commit suicide because of his father. Neils father didnt take into consideration neils love for theater arts, and acting. All he wanted is for neil to forget whatever it was that he really wanted to be to become a doctor. Neils father was controlling with or without Mr. Keating so Neil would have killed himself either way.

2. Knox was definitely the bravest of the bunch. He did what all the other boys didnt think he, or any of them would ever do. He went after his dream girl even with her big scary boyfriend in the way. He didnt stop approching her until she realised how much knox "loved" her. The coward would have to be Steven meaks for ratting on all the boys and blaming everything on Mr. Keating.

3. I do think that Mr. Keating put the book in neils room. Yea, maybe he said the administration wouldnt look favorably on it, but mr keating didnt really care what the administration thinks. If he did then he would follow all the teaching rules, which he didnt.

Theme

The Dead Poets Society was a movie based in Welton Academy it was an all boy prep school. Where everyone being taught there is already pre-planned on what they are going to by their parents and until a new English teacher comes to their school to teach they follow these rules. Mr. Keating who became the English teacher for Welton Academy teaches the children that they need to be individuals and the fundamentals of poetry and that it cannot be rated on a scale like they are supposed to be taught. Following after the first couple lessons he teaches the children become very interested and admire Mr. Keating and show him a book a year book of Mr. Keating's class when he himself had graduated from Welton. From that he get's asked what the Dead Poet Society is and he tells them that when he was in school he and his friends would go to an old indian cave and read poetry to each other. The children become interested and decide to reform the secret society. From that point on the kids make drastic changes in themselves and become individuals. Neil Perry then decides he's going to follow what he loves which is acting and get's the main role in a local play. He lies and forges a letter pretending to be his dad and get's the part. Later his dad finds out that he's in the play and forces him to get out of the play Neil disobeys his father because he's supposed to be out of town in Chicago for 4 days during the play his father comes to the play and see's Neil acting and his furious. He then brings him home and yells at him telling him he's going to be going to a military school, and going to Harvard to become a doctor. Neil feels like this is the end of life, so he decides to take his own life to not be forced to live a life he hates. This dramatic event gets Mr. Keating fired because the school believes that because Mr. Keating preached individuality to the children it made him pursue acting which ultimately resulted in the suicide of Neil Perry. So because of this they put the blame completely on Mr. Keating and he was fired and in the end the children stood on top of their desks while Mr. Keating was leaving his class and shouted “Captain my captain!” the movie then ended. This movie was great it contains a lot of good themes, but the main one I feel is repeated throughout the story is be yourself and do not conform to what others do and tell you to do because that's not who you are
